Tsemach Global Automotive, the detailing studio that revolutionized how you take care of your vehicle recently introduced the world-renowned professional automotive detailing supplies brand Chemical Guys to Sri Lankan vehicle enthusiasts. The state-of the-art product store was opened recently at Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.

Run by an ardent vehicle enthusiast and detailing promoter Ayesh Wickremasinghe, the store stocks a wide range of Chemical Guys car care products and professional detailing accessories. Being a hands-on kind of guy, Ayesh personally assists all his customers and makes recommendations based on the vehicle type, usage patterns and lifestyle of the driver/owner. Among some of the high profile clients (vehicles in this case!) that Ayesh services includes the likes of a Jaguar XJ, Mercedes S500e, Mercedes S400, Mercedes S300 and the American muscles such as the Cadillac Escalade, Dodge Challenger and Charger among many others.

Speaking at the opening Ayesh Explains, “Tsemach is not your typical detail garage. What we provide is tailor-made vehicle services. Many people in Sri Lanka have still not picked up on what detailing is all about and the importance of it for one’s vehicle. With Tsemach and Chemical Guys we hope to revolutionize how people treat their vehicles, more like making it a life style.”

Tsemach Global commenced operations in early 2016 as a detailing vehicle salon. At the same time Ayesh began researching in to vehicle detailing globally and stumbled on to an interesting website for “Chemical Guys”, a world-renowned brand for auto detailing. Finding out that the founders of Chemical Guys shared his same passion for maintaining a vehicle and the process of care that goes in to it, Ayesh found himself in contact with Chemical Guys and early this year was invited to train with them. The week long training programme was conducted by none other than the founder of Chemical Guys himself, Paul Schneider. As a result of the training, Ayesh is now the sole agent and distributor for Chemical Guys merchandise in Sri Lanka.

Speaking further Ayesh also notes, “The ultimate goal for Tsemach and Chemical Guys is to create a culture where owners begin to value their vehicles and give them the right kind of treatment which in turn ensures longevity, a lifelong relationship with your vehicle, and a guaranteed higher resale value for those who wish to upgrade their drive with the times.”

Over the last two years that Tsemach has been in operation much of Ayesh’s loyal clientele has expanded via word of mouth. “A happy customer is as good marketing as you can ask for especially in a small city like Colombo. Word travels so fast and as long as consistency and quality is maintained people keep coming back. This is what has worked for Tsemach and of course a whole lot of God’s grace”.

Finance Minister calls CB Governor a hospital attendant – VIDEO

Participating in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme is similar to one falling ill and being admitted to hospital, that though the Sri Lankan economy has not become a seriously ill patient who should be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), but has clearly become a patient who had to be admitted to hospital, said Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy recently while reviewing ‘The Road Map: Monetary and Financial Sector Policies for 2017 and Beyond’.

While speaking further, the Central Bank Governor said, “While we are aware of the treatment to be provided for this, it is a pleasure that it has already been started. Even the IMF has by now appreciated the progress by Sri Lanka. Since the improved efficiency of the state monetary sector is the important unit in this progress, the work done by the finance Minister and his staff should be appreciated. However, the challenges before us are the proper implementation of this with a clear understanding, goal and commitment of the road map before us. This has to be done through a national effort.”

However, while responding to the Central Bank Governor’s statement during a media conference on 05 January, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that when Mahinda Rajapaksa had handed over the government the economy was already in the ICU and that when the economy was being pushed into the ICU during the Mahinda Rajapaksa era, the incumbent Central bank Governor had been an attendant in that hospital. While pointing out that he (Indrajit Coomaraswamy) was also with the Rajapaksas at that time, the Finance Minister added that however, what had been in the ICU would soon be brought not to the hospital but to the OPD.

Located in Welikande in the Pollonnaruwa District, the 10 Mega Watt solar plant has been installed with a solar tracking system that will follow the sun’s rays to ensure an incrementally higher yield of approximately 20% energy, than the fixed tilt system. At full capacity, the plant could contribute 22,000 Mega Watt hours to the national grid plus generate enough electricity for roughly 10,000 homes.

The solar plant, built in an impressive five months and funded by the Hayleys Group along with Windforce Private Ltd, was declared open by the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Hon Ranjith Siyambalapitiya in the presence of a distinguished gathering that included Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith Perera and Chairman and Chief Executive, Hayleys Group, Mohan Pandithage, Managing Director, Windforce Pvt Ltd, Asgi Akbarally, along with the leadership and management of Hayleys and Windforce.

“Through renewable sources such as this, we could significantly bring down the per household cost of electricity, while adhering and aligning ourselves to the government’s energy policy and plan of meeting the Country’s total demand from renewable sources” added Pandithage.

The new plant will help nudge Sri Lanka’s total installed Non-Conventional renewable capacity across the 500 MW mark, of which Hayleys Group’s installed capacity of renewable energy alone in wind, hydro and solar, crosses the 50MW mark, according to Dr Arul Sivagananathan, Managing Director, Hayleys Aventura.

The group, Hayleys, plans to obtain carbon credits for this project in partnership with Sri Lanka Climate Fund.  A scheme will be set up whereby local businesses and corporates could obtain accreditation to offset their carbon footprint.

As solar power increases, Sri Lanka is expected to become self sufficient in renewable energy sources by 2030, according to Sri Lanka’s energy sector development plan.

Solar power generation plants have been praised by environmental groups as it generates clean energy. While reducing the impact of the problem of air quality, green resource can reduce the import of oil to our Country and most importantly, keep average costs of electricity down.

AIA Vitality, making Sri Lankans healthy, one step at a time

Prefer a walk to a nearby destination rather than getting stuck in traffic? Would you rather take the stairs instead of the elevator? Do you try your best to get in a small walk daily for exercise? If so, then the AIA Vitality programme, is just what you need, to make walking even better!

Asia’s leading insurer AIA’s ‘Vitality programme’ is the newest, most rewarding wellness platform in Sri Lanka, aimed at making Sri Lankans healthier, one step at a time. It’s a first of its kind, science-backed wellness programme that provides participants with the knowledge, tools and motivation to improve their health.

It’s an easy-to-use application which you can download for free from the Google play-store or the Apple app-store. Once you register, it lets you calculate your Vitality age (body age), but, be warned, you may be older than you expect! You will be given ‘step targets’ to earn ‘vitality points’ and if you achieve your targets, AIA will reward you. You can work-out in the gym, run or the easiest thing to do is just walk!

Why does AIA reward you for being active? It’s no secret that unhealthy lifestyle choices and insufficient exercise is the leading cause for non-communicable diseases (NCD) in Sri Lanka, triggering over 70% of deaths in the country (Sri Lanka Health Ministry). More disturbingly, an astounding 95% of Sri Lankans acknowledge that there are definitely things they can do to improve their health but only 8% have taken major steps towards healthy living! (AIA Healthy Living Index 2016) So we can agree that whilst Sri Lankans have a high awareness of the importance of healthy living, we are not really doing much about it!

AIA is committed to help people live, longer, healthier and better lives. And what better way to start than by encouraging people to get active, exercise and be conscious of their health. Easier said than done! Many of us are only too familiar with that overwhelming temptation to take the easy way out. That which keeps us on the couch, or has us getting into a tri-shaw to travel a short distance. That is why the AIA Vitality programme uses rewards as an incentive for you to be active.

The globally renowned wellness programme uses extensive science backed research in behavioural economics and health incentives. Their research shows that incentives can work to nudge people towards adopting and sustaining healthier behaviours. So while your own good health should be the biggest incentive, AIA’s exciting rewards including mobile top-ups, movie tickets, discount vouchers from e-tailers and taxi vouchers, do help!

AIA Sri Lanka Chief Marketing Officer Nikhil Advani said “This is revolutionary to Sri Lanka as it is a programme that will bring about positive change in an engaging, fun and rewarding way. The message is simple. Most people may not be able to exercise all the time, but every day will present you an opportunity to walk, and you should grab that opportunity, because staying active is imperative for good health.”

He added, “Unlike other wellness programmes, AIA Vitality uses a combination of incentives and principles of behavioural economics to achieve sustainable change. It is designed to make people accountable for their own health.”

CEO Pankaj Banerjee commented, “We are excited to launch AIA Vitality in Sri Lanka, which is proven to work, evidenced by the tremendous success that it has enjoyed in the other AIA markets. As the Real Life Company, we care about your well-being. AIA is constantly looking for ways to help you live longer, healthier, better- so all of us can make the most of our lives and be there for those that matter the most to us.” So get on-board the AIA Vitality programme- it may be the best New Year’s resolution you make!
