Tea control laws to become stronger

Cabinet approved a proposal by Plantations Minister Naveen Dissanayake is to amend the Tea Control Act, No. 51 of 1957 to increase the fine imposed on a person found guilty from the existing Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 500,000 and to increase the arbitration fees from the existing Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 500,000  Amendments to Companies Act due to bankrupt companies

Meanwhile, a decision has been taken to discard the commonly used term ‘rubbish tea’ and instead use the more appropriate term ‘rejected tea’.
